We don't know that. For all we know a bunch of others offered somethin' "better." I'm not gonna risk havin' a t- a friend die for my sake. You wanted us both to accept death from the start, well, we're in this shit together now.

Dying... is probably really unpleasant. But it's like you said- we all come back, get better. I'm fine with that, so there's no point in you tying yourself up in knots for my sake.

But how do you think I'm gonna live with myself knowing I helped kill somebody who already said they don't want to die? Knowing I even agreed to the possibility?

I won't be able to get better from that. Probably not ever.

So we had to do "tasks" to slow it down.
